Pig Out: A Roundup of all things Bacon

2007 is the year of the pig and in lieu of the ubiquitous "best of my blog in 2007" post, here is a long list of bacon inspired products and recipes. The bacon scented bacon print tuxedo is my favorite. If it weren't $100, it would make a great gag gift or white elephant gift.

Excuses, Excuses
Thank you for your patience and sorry for the unannounced light posting. I have had intermittent internet service and a host of family gatherings to attend to. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and I look forward to bringing you fresh content within the next couple of days.

Scared of Santa Photo Gallery

The only nightmare I have ever had in my life involved a mucousy green faced Santa sitting on me and crushing me. Judging from the photos, these kids were equally horrified by jolly Saint Nicholas. The Junior Society has assembled a list of websites that collect and display photos of children who are terrified of the man in the red lobster suit. The photos are funny, but I can't help but feel for the little kids.

Behemoth Frankenbird

Move over turducken. There is a newer, bigger frankenbird in town. Anne Petch's gluttonous multi fowl serves 125, requires 8 hours to cook, and contains 48 (that's not a typo) birds from 12 species, including:
*01: Turkey
*02: Goose
*03: Barbary duck
*04: Guinea fowl
*05: Mallard
*06: Poussin
*07: Quail
*08: Partridge
*09: Pigeon squab
*10: Pheasant
*11: Chicken
*12: Aylesbury duck
Who will one-up Anne next year? Holy Cow!
Via Tastespotting.
Update:
*02/10/08: Another frankenmeat, the bacon pig, is a pork hot dog encased in ground pork, wrapped it in bacon, and formed into the likeness of a pig.

Tim Fraser Brown: Manetone: Manet in Pantone Chips

From Tim Fraser Brown's website, Manetone is:
A reproduction of Édouard Manet's 'Bar at the Folies Bergere' made entirely of old Pantone chips. Over 5,000 unused chips were painstakingly colour matched and and stuck down over four long nights, and acted as centre piece for a boozey party in our design studio.Impression of an Impressionist painting. Genius.

Holiday Gift Guide 2007: Part 4: For Photo Enthusiasts

I first learned about digital infared photography in a My Precious article for JPG Magazine. Hoya makes a screw on filter that mimics the effect of infrared photography by blocking visible light and allowing infrared light to show. You can purchase a Hoya 52mm RM-72 Infrared Filter for $35.25 USD through Amazon here

Digital infared photos work best with long exposures with a tripod. For photographers who don't want to lug around a hefty traditional tripod, the Gorillapod is a good choice. It is compact and has legs that wrap around almost anything. It comes in different sizes for small point and shoots

Lomo Diana Camera
This medium format plastic camera is a new addition to the Lomo toy camera assortment. Available for $60 USD on Fred Flare and $50 USD on Amazon.

This vintage camera photo album is available on Amazon for $10 USD
here

This magnetic photo rope is a fun and informal way to showcase a few photos. 2 for $20 USD from Photojojo.

Another interesting way to regularly switch out your photos is with the wall o photos from Urban outfitters for $15 USD.
If you need more ideas for photo enthusiasts, Photojojo just posted their holiday gift guide.

Marcos Breder: Equation Bookshelf

The Equation Bookshelf by Marcos Breder allows you to prioritize your books.
From the Estúdio Breder blog.
'Equation Bookshelf' is a simple idea of to divide things in priority order... put together the books that you need immediately or more important between (parentheses)! Set others between [square brackets] and {braces}.
Love that!
This fun typographic bookshelf reminds me of the Quote Unquote Bookends I posted about in September.
